Ghashgai (also spelled Qashqai) rugs are names for the nomadic peoples that weave them, who reside in the area of the Fars Province. Although this culture has not recorded its history in writing, they have passed it down through generations, and it is known that they have been weaving rugs for centuries. They are known for their rich colors, especially the use of reds, saffron, and navy. Another identifying trademark of Ghashgai rugs is their flat-weave rug style, which gives the rugs a sense of versatility to the nomadic tribes people who weave them. These rugs were originally used for everything from floor coverings, to bedspreads, to heat-conserving wall hangings..
