This custom flat weave design is from the Scandinavian Kilim collection. Handwoven in wool and natural yarns, its design reflects a contemporary take on mid-century Rollakans and Swedish Deco style.
This new flat weave reinvents vintage Scandinavian Kilim in ways that both honor the Swedish minimalist aesthetic and modernize its construction. Our use of undyed natural yarns, for example, lends a subtle striae with more of a sense of movement and depth—a nod to Scandinavian technique in a modern fashion. The choice of colors, too, explores their retro feel in a more refreshing quality.
These photos represent a former 6×9 Kilim in this construction, with grid-like geometric patterns around blue and gray squares. It’s a thoughtful balance of new and chic that brings mid-century geometric patterns a fabulous new look and feel.
Our flat weave further enjoys a thick, more durable body than any flat weave in high-end rugs. It’s a hallmark of our Kilim design, and another contemporary contribution to the Scandinavian aesthetic that sits comfortably anywhere.
