Beautiful Large Antique Turkish Oushak Rug 4041, Country of Origin: Antique Turkish Rugs, Circa Date: 1920 – Turkish Oushak carpets are a favorite because they have a formal feel, but they also add a tribal ambiance to the room. This carpet was created in the 1920s and would the perfect addition to both traditional and modern rooms.

Oushak carpets were created in west-central Anatolia, which has been a major production center of carpets since the late 15th century. Since that time, they have been revered for their quality wools, durability, and beautiful colors created using natural vegetable dyes. Oushak carpets are usually known for their bright, vibrant color combinations, but the weaver of this carpet took a different approach. This carpet uses only two colors, a natural wool color and a deep blue.

The design features sharp, crisp geometrics, which is a common design in Oushak carpets. This Turkish carpet has an allover design that is created from repeating rows of geometric forms. The weaver included traditional tribal symbols throughout the carpet. You can find stylized representations of the boteh, herati, and cross designs.

The boteh is similar to a paisley and represents the universe or eternal flame. The herati represents water or fish, and the cross stands for faith. The blue color of the carpet, combined with these ancient symbols, carries a message about the meaning of water and its importance to life on earth.

This carpet has crisp lines, and the pile is trimmed short to accentuate them. This antique carpet is a beautiful design in both its color palette and design concept. Oushak is known for creating unique designs that show a high level of artistic talent. The creator of this carpet took some artistic freedom in the design and use of color in this rug. The precise geometry and organization of the design give it a formal character, but the simplicity and tribal symbols allow it to blend into an informal setting, too. That is one of the reasons why Oushak carpets are cherished and why this one will be cherished for many years to come.
