Antique Persian Mahal Rug 4257, Country of Origin: Persian Rugs, Circa Date: 1900– A delightfully complex design spreads across this antique Persian rug, rich with warmth due to the red background of the central field. Ornate flowers braced with leaves rendered in white, orange, green and blue are represented with angular line work. The stylized, repeating figures seem to align in columns and rows over the body of the antique rug, an effect strengthened by white stems arranged vertically and horizontally. In the corners of the middle area, white triangles rest, brimming with more floral designs and perfectly symmetrical with each other on the antique Persian Sultanabad / Mahal rug. A set of intricate borders encloses the design, widest at the center with a black-backed band of blossoms.
