Antique Persian Sultanabad / Mahal Rug 4266, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920’s– An intricately interlocking spread of flowers and greenery covers the body of this Sultanabad Persian rug, seeming to spill out from a central striped daisy over a creamy tan background. The flora are picked out in brick and shades of brown, outlined with the darkest hues. Narrow, feathery fronds frame many of the blossoms along the vertically symmetrical pattern. Slim edgings of crenelated orange surround the central field and line the outer edge of the rug, enclosing a set of flora-filled borders. The middle band brims with alternating, colorful medallions, and the smaller two flanking it hold flowering vines on a cream backdrop.
